A New Force in Finnish Groove Metal

The Finnish groove/thrash metal scene has been renowned for its brutal intensity since the ’90s. As a result, it set a high bar for ferocity—a benchmark many aspire to, but few achieve. Then, in 2022, Furious Descent emerged on Finland’s west coast, shaking the genre with a raw energy that quickly marked them as a rising contender.

The band was initially formed by Jake (vocals/guitar) and Alex (bass). Soon after, Stef joined on lead guitar and Timo on drums. Together, they recorded their debut EP, Judgement Day, in the summer of 2023. This release captured the raw, unrelenting power of their sound. However, just as momentum built, Timo’s departure caused a temporary setback.

A brief transitional lineup played only one show before disbanding. Nevertheless, Furious Descent proved resilient. By summer 2024, the band reemerged stronger, adding Oz on lead guitar and Mike on drums alongside founding members Jake and Alex. Consequently, this new formation solidified their status as a force in the groove metal scene.
